Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters accepts undergraduate interns from Social Work, CDFS, Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice fields. Internships are ongoing.
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches youth in the Fargo–Moorhead area with adult mentors. Through community-based and school-based mentoring, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of The Village Family Service Center strives to prevent negative behaviors and equip children with the skills to make positive decisions, healthy choices and achieve self-sufficiency.
Interns learn and assist with the service delivery process including screening of volunteers, assessment of youth, developing outcome objectives, matching, and providing match support.

Program information: The Village Development Office raises funds for its programs through current giving, corporate sponsorships and special events. Current giving occurs through direct mail appeals. Corporate sponsorships are a major part of special events, which include the Bobcat ND State Open (a three-day pro-am golf tournament), Home Run Heroes (a season-long event in partnership with the FM RedHawks), Wine & Dine (a dinner/dance/silent auction) and Bowl for Kids’ Sake (a bowl-a-thon for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program). Other special events occur throughout the year through a variety of partnerships with community organizations.

Counseling Services and Attachment & Development Programs
Fargo, North Dakota
Criteria is generally a Master’s Degree or in Master’s Program
Counseling Services provides outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families for a variety of issues. These include mood and affective disorders, eating disorders, sexual abuse, marital and relationship therapy, grief, anger management, as well as other issues. Psychological testing is also available through the Counseling Services program. The Attachment & Development program provides treatment to children diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder. The treatment involves family members as well and involves an assessment, intensive therapy, and follow-up therapy.

Human Resources

Human Resources (HR) staff members are advocates for both the organization and the people who work in the organization. Some of the duties are:
- Employee file management, which includes processing new hire paperwork, assuring compliance with background check procedures and data input to HRIS.
- Conducts orientation sessions for new employees to explain personnel policies, compensation and benefit programs, as well as organizes new employee orientation.
- Assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies.
We accept one intern at a time, however Internships are available on an ongoing basis.

Family Group Decision Making
Case Aide and Facilitator Internship Opportunities
All Regions
Criteria—Case Aide:
Working on BA/BS in the area of human services (social work, sociology, education, child development/family science, psychology etc). Need to have administrative support skills for taking notes/documentation at family group conferences, basic computer skills. Training and Case Aide observations available.
Responsibilities would be to assist FGDM facilitator with arranging family conferences and during the family conferences. Must have a comfort level with families displaying and addressing conflict. Light lifting and standing requirements.
Time commitment: Flexible hours, (week days, evenings, weekends) 5–15 hours per week. Minimum of 3 month commitment more preferred.
Criteria—Facilitator:
Completing BA/BS with significant human services experience or planning to go onto Masters Program.
Working on MA/MS/M.Ed. in the area of human services (social work, sociology, education, child development/family science, psychology etc).
Responsibilities would include receiving facilitator training, co-facilitating and eventually facilitating FGDM conferences, basic computer skills. Must have a passion for working with families and a basic belief in their ability and right to care for their own children. Must have a comfort level with families displaying and addressing conflict and a willingness to facilitate sometimes difficult discussions. Light lifting and standing requirements.
Time commitment: Flexible hours, (week days, evenings, weekends) 15-30 hours per week. Minimum of 6 month commitment more preferred.
